BIRDING LOTHIAN

This 2nd winter Kumlien's Gull at Skateraw Harbour during November 2008 was a furstrating one for the county listers. Found on the 14th the bird was thought to be a 1st winter Iceland Gull by the finders, Peter Macdonald's superb images of the bird taken not long after it was found confirmed the bird to be a 2w Kumlien's & a county first! Unfortunetly, by the time the identification had changed there was no time for birders to get down to the site and the bird was seen only once more a couple of days later briefly in flight. Although not regarded as a full species this bird would have proved popular with birders in Lothian.
