TUE 25/11/14 In the Lammermuirs a ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARD again c1 mile east of Fasney Bridge in valley between Penshiel Hill & Priestlaw Hill (NT642625) viewable from unclassified road at Duddy Bank 12:30-13:15. On the NE side of Edinburgh drake SURF SCOTER still west of Musselburgh with Velvet Scoters off Eastfield at 1.15pm also Black-throated Diver & 2 Slavonian Grebes + nearby 2 Red-necked Grebes & 18 Slavonian Grebes off Musselburgh also Kingfisher at the River Esk Mouth. In Dunbar fm/imm Black Redstart again south of harbour on East Beach early a'noon but no sign of male Black Redstart which was present here y'day. In the Pentlands Jack Snipe still on marsh at Harperrig Reservoir. On the west side of Dunbar a Little Egret in Belhaven Bay this a.m then flew SE over caravan park also 2 Greenshank & Water Rail (heard only) at Seafield Pond.

SUN 23/11/14 In Dunbar a Black Redstart south of harbour on East Beach this a'noon + nearby on west side of Dunbar female Scaup on Seafield Pond this a.m + 35 Twite in Belhaven Bay. At Thorntonloch d/b Brent Goose still in sheep field on north side this a.m also Snow Bunting flew south over + 11 Whooper Swans. On the NE side of Edinburgh the drake SURF SCOTER off Joppa this a'noon but distant. In the Pentlands c71 SNOW BUNTINGS on the south side of Scald Law by path to South Black Hill also
4 Snow Bunings on Carnethy Hill + Jack Snipe on marsh at Harperrig Reservoir. In the Lammermuirs again no sign of any Rough-legged Buzzards today.
SAT 22/11/14 On the west side of Dunbar a Yellow Wagtail flew south over Seafield Pond at 3.05pm also Little Egret, 2 Greenshank & 20+ Twite in Belhaven Bay this a'noon + nearby presumably the same Yellow Wagtail was on saltmarsh near toilet block at JMCP then flew towards Belhaven Bay at 1.45pm. In the Lammermuirs no sign of any Rough-legged Buzzards in Mayshiel / Kingside Hill area in 3hrs this a'noon. In East Lothian 110+ Whooper Swans NE of Drem in fields between Chapel & Kingston at 12pm NT539819.

Off Musselburgh 3 Pomarine Skuas & 5 Little Gulls late morning also Swallow flew south over cadet huts by River Esk Mouth at c12.10pm. In Gosford Bay 2 p/b Brent Geese flew east past Ferny Ness late morning. In Dunbar Chiffchaff visiting a private garden this morning.
SUN 16/11/14 In the Lammermuirs 2 ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARDS reported again; one in valley near Fasney Bridge + one between Mayshiel & Whiteadder Reservoir until 4pm then flew into larch tree above Mayshiel to roost. On the west side of Dunbar no sign today of the adult Caspian Gull in Belhaven Bay but 2 Pomarine Skuas flew east past late morning. At Musselburgh the drake SURF SCOTER still off the River Esk Mouth this morning. In Edinburgh single Waxwing in Barnton near Whitehouse Rd / Gamekeepers Rd junction briefy then flew off west at 12pm also 8 Whooper Swans flew over Granton Harbour at 4pm. In Tyninghame Bay Little Egret, Greenshank & Merlin this a.m also Snow Bunting & 33 Twite (inc one colour-ringed) + Brent Goose flew south past at 9.10am. At Barns Ness a Little Auk flew north past at c12pm. In Aberlady Bay 2 Little Egrets on river near wooden footbridge at 11.30am also 50+ Twite today & Kingfisher at Marl Loch + nearby Arctic Skua flew east past Gullane Point & Little Gull feeding off Black rocks on the NE side of Gullane Bay at 3pm. In the Lammermuirs a ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARD this a'noon along line of pylons east of minor road east of Fasney Cottage at 2pm then flew south over road and present in valley south of Fasney Cottage by Herd's Hill at 2.40pm + 3 Snow Buntings reported over Lamb Hill. At Musselburgh the drake SURF SCOTER again off the River Esk Mouth this a'noon also Little Auk flew east past Fisherrow at 9.30am. At Barns Ness Long-tailed Skua, Arctic Skua, 6 Little Gulls & Little Auk reported past today also 1+ Snow Bunting this a'noon and possible Water Pipit reported + nearby 3 Snow Butings on beach in Whitesands Bay. At Seton Sands 3 Med Gulls (all adults) by burn mouth late a'noon also Black Guillemot still distantly offshore + nearby 2 Red-necked Grebes & 15 Slavonian Grebes off Longniddry this a'noon. MON 10/11/14 In the Lammermuirs 2 ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARDS still c5mls SW of Gifford / c1km NW of Fasney Cottage west of the unclassified road just south of the Whiteadder junction over Wanside Rig NT602642 early a'noon at least; earlier one Rough-legged Buzzard c1/2ml NW of Fasney Brige flew south over the road by pilons towards Herd's Hill at 10am + ringtail Hen Harrier & Merlin. At Musselburgh 2 Med Gulls (both adults including the returning red colour-ring code 7P8) at the River Esk Mouth at 12.45pm. In Aberlady Bay a Little Egret upstream from wooden footbridge at 12pm.
SUN 09/11/14 In the Lammermuirs 2 ROUGH-LEGGED BUZZARDS from early a'noon and still late a'noon at least 5.5mls SW of Gifford along Fasney Water in valley west of the road where pilons cross and favouring area west of Herds Hill (NT612627) and north of here just north of Fasney Cottage (NT608635) and showing well at times. In Gosford Bay the Black Guillemot again off Ferny Ness (and distantly off Seton Sands) also Great Northern Diver, 67 Slavonian Grebes, Great Crested Grebe,
5 Red-throated Divers (+ 11 flew west), 34 Long-tailed Ducks & 245 Velvet Scoters offshore + 3 Snow Buntings at 1pm flew west towards Longniddry. At Musselburgh the drake SURF SCOTER still off the River Esk Mouth today. At Torness a Little Auk this morning on sea near harbour close in by breakwaters + Brent Goose between Torness & Thorntonloch late a'noon.

At Dunbar a Little Auk on sea off harbour drifted north at 8.45am also Great Northern Diver flew south past at 8.25am + nearby 5 Little Egrets flew SE over Seafield Pond at dusk but may have returned to roost also Chiffchaff in Belhaven Bay Caravan Park. THU 06/11/14 In Whitesands Bay (1 mile east of Dunbar) the GREY PHALAROPE still early morning but no sign after c9.15am also Woodcock in off the sea this a.m. Off Barns Ness 137 Little Auks north past in c45 mins late a.m / early p.m also 20 Little Auks north past 2.00pm - 2.10pm + Long-eared Owl flew in off the sea at 1.30pm. Off Dunbar 30 Little Auks north past by 10.40am.
