TUE 9th MAR In Gosford Estate FIRECREST still today, during its stay it has been favouring the area near to the small white bridge between the circular Mausoleum and Gosford Ponds at NT456788.
MON 8th MAR In Gosford Estate FIRECREST still today, it has been favouring the area between the Mausoleum and Gosford Ponds near to the small white brdige at NT456788. On the western outskirts of Edinburgh 12 Waxwings still in S. Queensferry in Echline Ave (opp Echline Place) late morning at least. In Skateraw Harbour (Torness) 27 Brent Geese still, also Purple Sandpiper there and 6+ Red-throated Diver at nearby White Sands Bay. At Tyninghame 5 Whooper Swans in fields on left of access road to John Muir Park this pm, also 2 Mute Swan.
SUN 7th MAR In Gosford Estate FIRECREST still today near the white bridge between the Mausoleum and Gosford Ponds NT456788. At Torness the Black-necked Grebe still on the east side of Skateraw Harbour around the Power Station Inflow, also 25 Brent Geese (inc. 1 dark-bellied) this am. In Belhaven Bay a flock of 32 Snow Buntings on the beach, also 50+ Twite by the dunes. In Gosford bay single Black-throated Diver off Craigielaw Point today. On the east side of Dunbar a single Snow Bunting at Broxmouth.
SAT 6th MAR At Barns Ness a Corn Bunting early afternoon on wires near the lighthouse, then on gorse east of the old caravan site before flying SE towards the Dry Burn (Skateraw) at about 1pm. At Skateraw Black-necked Grebe again, today in the harbour favouring the area around the water intake and life boat showing well off the walkway still this pm. Also at Barns Ness at least 1 Water Pipit still on the beach south of the lighthouse, with
Snow Bunting there and Raven over. On Linlithgow Loch fm Smew still at the east end this afternoon. On the west side of Edinburgh 12 Waxwings in
S. Queensferry in Echline Avenue this pm. At Torness 22 (p-b) Brent Geese still on rocks near the outfall this am. At Seton Sands 2 adult (colour-ringed) Mediterranean Gulls this pm (red-7P8 & white-3H11) on the beach by the burn mouth. In Belhaven Bay 1 Jack Snipe flushed from the marsh by the burn on the west side of the bay, also Greenshank over. In the Inner Bay at Tyninghame 2+ Greenshank on the river, also single drake Shoveler in with Wigeon. At least 1 Short-eared Owl showing this pm in Aberlady Bay. 1 Waxwing Gosford flew from main road towards Estate.
THU 4th MAR In Gosford Estate FIRECREST still today elusive but showing well at times along the track which runs parallel with the burn between the circular Mausoleum and Gosford Ponds NT456788. At Torness no sign this morning of the Black-necked Grebe which was present y'day off the walkway by the outfall at 3pm, 22 (pale-bellied) Brent Geese still there this am at least. No sign of the 2 Waxwings in Haddington around Queens Avenue this am.
4 Waxwings reported from Longniddry today.
WED 3rd MAR At Torness a Black-necked Grebe close in shore off the Power Station Outfall at 3pm today. At Aberlady 3 Snow Buntings briefly late afternoon on the beach beyond the old Tern Colony before flying off north/west, also 3 Short-eared Owls still on the reserve and showing well from late afternoon and Peregrine. In Edinburgh c. 14 Waxwings around the Granton Road (A903) / Wardie Road area about half mile north of Botanic Gardens at 15.30pm. At Musselburgh ad Mediterranean Gull today on the frozen boating pond.
TUE 2nd MAR At Aberlady Snow Bunting still on the beach on the north side of the bay, also fm Merlin & 3 Short-eared Owls on the reserve late afternoon and Water Rail on the Mirl Loch. In Haddington 2 Waxwings still in Queens Avenue. At Tyninghame Green Sandpiper again on the river where it meets the bay. Single Red-necked Grebe off the seawall at Musselburgh today.
MON 1st MAR At Barns Ness 2 Water Pipit still on the beach south of the lighthouse and beyond the wreck. At Tyninghame Green Sandpiper still on the river where it enters the bay on the north side, also 4+ Greenshank there, 70+ Twite on the saltmarsh and 2 Jack Snipe between the toilet block at JMCP and Belhaven Bay.
