In Dunbar the fem/imm Black Redstart still on East Beach this a'noon + 5 Little Auks past Dunbar Harbour in 30mins + nearby the female Mandarin Duck still on the west side of Dunbar on Seafield Pond this a'noon also Greenshank in Belhaven Bay. On Linlithgow Loch the redhead Smew & Long-tailed Duck still at east end late a'noon also Water Rail still showing well by burn mouth at east end. On the NW side of Edinburgh 2 p/b Brent Geese with Greylags along shore just east of Dalmeny House / west of Cramond. At Musselburgh Med Gull at the River Esk Mouth at 2pm.

FRI 30/01/15 On the NE side of Edinburgh the drake Surf Scoter off the Brunstane Burn at Eastfield early a'noon.

THU 29/01/15 At Musselburgh 4 Snow Buntings reported on 1st Lagoon east of Esk Mouth this morning also 6+ Twite. At Thorntonloch a Little Egret reported on beach this morning. At Barns Ness 2 Snow Buntings still on beach near wreck. On the west side of Penicuik 40+ Brambling by Lowries Den Road this a'noon cNT218603. On the west side of Dunbar a Greenshank in Belhaven Bay. In Edinburgh the Water Rail still in reeds at west end of Inverleith Pond this a'noon.

WED 28/01/15 On Linlithgow Loch the redhead Smew still at east end this a'noon but no sign of the Long-tailed Duck. In Edinburgh the Water Rail still in reeds at west end of Inverleith Pond this a'noon.

TUE 27/01/15 Off Cockenzie 2 Little Auks flew west past at 9.25am. In Edinburgh a Water Rail in reeds at west end of Inverleith Pond this a'noon.

MON 26/01/15 At Aberlady Bay NR the Long-eared Owl still in buckthorn by Marl Loch this morning. Off Port Seton 2 Little Auks flew west past in 20mins this morning also 2 Red-necked Grebes off Long Craigs. Off Dunbar 3 Little Auks this morning.

SUN 25/01/15 At Morrison's Haven (between Musselburgh & Prestonpans) a fem/imm Black Redstart briefly 2.40pm then flew east + nearby 2 Little Auks flew west past the River Esk Mouth at Musselburgh 13:30-14:00. Off Gullane Point 3 Little Auks mid-morning + nearby 1+ Long-eared Owl still at Aberlady Bay NR in buckthorn by Marl Loch. At Barns Ness 3+ Little Auks on sea off lighthouse at 11am. In Edinburgh a Little Auk flew west past Leith at 1.35pm. In Dunbar the fem/imm Black Redstart still south of harbour on East Beach late a'noon.

LATE NEWS 24/01/15 On the south side of Dunbar c25 Waxwings flew over the A1 (c1ml west of roundabout for Spott) into roadside bushes at 1.15pm on Saturday.

SAT 24/01/15 At Dunglass 2 Tundra Bean Geese flew north past close inshore at c10.20am. Off Port Seton the Black Guillemot again east of harbour off Long Craigs this a'noon. At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter still off River Esk Mouth.

FRI 23/01/15 At Aberlady Bay NR still 1+ Long-eared Owl in buckthron by Marl Loch this a'noon. In Haddington a Little Egret on the River Tyne by Nungate Bridge 8:35am at least. At Barns Ness 2 Snow Buntings still on beach near wreck. On the NW side of Edinburgh 8 Greenshank at the River Almond Mouth in Cramond.

THU 22/01/15 In Edinburgh the redhead Smew now in Wardie Bay (between Granton & Leith) with Goldeneye flock viewable best from Newhaven Harbour this a'noon + nearby the fem/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield along shore near sewage works this morning. On the west side of Dunbar the female Mandarin Duck again on Seafield Pond on ice with Mallards this a'noon also Water Rail (heard only). At Barns Ness 2 Snow Buntings still on beach near wreck.

WED 21/01/15 In Midlothian a 1st-winter Iceland Gull late morning on Rosebery Reservoir (4.5mls ESE of Penicuik) then flew off south at c11.20am also juvenile
Whooper Swan NT308568. At Musselburgh a redhead Smew at the River Esk Mouth early a'noon then flew off strong north with Goldeneye. At Linlithgow Loch
no sign of the redhead Smew this morning (thought probably to be the same individual at Musselburgh today) also no sign of the Long-tailed Duck. In Dunbar the fm/imm Black Redstart still along East Beach and in nearby gardens this a'noon but no news on the juvenile Glaucous Gull in harbour. At Aberlady Bay NR 1+ Long-eared Owl still in buckthorn by Marl Loch today. At Barns Ness 1+ Snow Bunting still on beach near wreck this a'noon. In Gosford Bay 64 Slavonian Grebes, 375 Velvet Scoter,
2 Red-throated Diver & 49 Long-tailed Ducks off Ferny Ness this morning.

TUE 20/01/15 In Dunbar the juvenile Glaucous Gull again showing well in the main harbour this a'noon + fm/imm Black Redstart still nearby on East Beach this morning. On Linlithgow Loch the redhead Smew still on remaining ice-free water also Long-tailed Duck still.

MON 19/01/15 In Dunbar the juvenile Glaucous Gull again showing well in the main harbour late morning but no sign this a'noon + fm/imm Black Redstart still on East Beach. In North Berwick a Black Redstart on the south side of North Berwick Law in disused quarry cNT555839. At Aberlady Bay NR 2 Long-eared Owls still in buckthorn by Marl Loch this morning also 1+ Little Egret & Kingfisher on river near wooden footbridge. In Edinburgh the fm/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield again on beach east of sewage works late morning also adult Med Gull. In the Firth of Forth c20 Little Auks on sea off Edinburgh east of Leith from survey boat. At Barns Ness 2 Snow Buntings on beach south of lighthouse this a'noon.

SUN 18/01/15 In Dunbar the juvenile Glaucous Gull again this a'noon showing well in the main harbour 12:30-13:30 at least also fm/imm Black Redstart still south of the harbour on East Beach this a'noon. In Edinburgh the fm/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield again on beach east of sewage works late morning also 2 Med Gulls (adult & 2nd-winter) flew west along prom. At Aberlady Bay NR the 2 Long-eared Owls still in buckthorn by the Marl Loch this a'noon (a report of 3 Long-eared Owls here earlier this week). At Musselburgh 2 Med Gulls (both adults) at the River Esk Mouth at c3.30pm. On the NE side of East Fortune a d/b Brent Goose at East Fortune Ponds this a'noon with Barnacle Goose, 20 Pink-footed Geese & 655 Greylags NT557800.

SAT 17/01/15 In Edinburgh the fm/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield on beach west of sewage works late morning. In Aberlady a Little Egret flew west over Waterston House towards Gosford Bay mid-morning. At Barns Ness single Snow Bunting at 1pm. At Musselburgh Red-throated Diver & 5+ Slavonian Grebes off the seawall.

FRI 16/01/15 In Edinburgh the fm/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield on beach west of sewage works just west of long outfall at 2pm. At Aberlady Bay NR
2 Long-eared Owls still roosting in buckthorn by Marl Loch.

THU 15/01/15 At Torness 8 Tundra Bean Geese in fields on west side of Torness Power Station early a'noon then flew off at c12.40pm and no further sign NT741750.

WED 14/01/15 In Edinburgh a drake Shoveler on north side of Duddingston Loch.

TUE 13/01/15 At Barns Ness a juvenile Glaucous Gull on rocks by lighthouse 11.30am at least. At Ballencrieff (2km SE of Aberlady) 1+ Tundra Bean Goose still with Pink-footed Geese just WNW of A6137 / B1377 roundabout mid-morning cNT477780. At Aberlady Bay NR the 2 Long-eared Owls still roosting in buckthorn by Marl Loch. At Musselburgh an adult Little Gull off the seawall at 1.40pm. On the west side of Dunbar the female Mandarin Duck still on Seafield Pond + nearby Greenshank in Belhaven Bay late a'noon. In Haddington a Kingfisher on the River Tyne just upstream from Victoria Bridge.

SUN 11/01/15 In Dunbar a juvenile Glaucous Gull flew north past East Beach at c1.10pm then in the main harbour til 1.20pm then flew off the west towards Belhaven Bay also 1+ Black Redstart (probably two fm/imm) still south of Dunbar Harbour on East Beach late a'noon + on the west side of Dunbar the female Mandarin Duck again on Seafield Pond this a'noon also Little Egret in Belhaven Bay. In Edinburgh the fm/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield now on beach west of sewage works near base of long outfall this morning. At Aberlady Bay NR 2 Long-eared Owls (one showing well) again roosting in buckthorn by Marl Loch this morning also 3 Blackcaps. At Ballencrieff (2km SE of Aberlady) 2 Tundra Bean Geese again with Pink-footed Geese in fields north of the A6137 / B1377 roundabout cNT481784. On Linlithgow Loch the female
Long-tailed Duck still along north shore opposite Palace this a'noon also Water Rail.

TUE 06/01/15 At Aberlady Bay NR 1+ Long-eared Owl again roosting in buckthorn by Marl Loch today. On the north side of Coates (1km SE of Spittal)
2 Eurasian White-fronted Geese with c350 Pink-footed Geese NT476763 11:00-13:15 then flew off north + nearby d/b Brent Goose & 4 Barnacle Geese north of Ballencrieff Mains in fields east of A6137 with Greylags & Pink-footed Geese this a'noon cNT476787. In South Queensferry an adult Med Gull in Echline Rigg at 1.40pm. In Edinburgh
2 Shovelers (both drakes) in Lochend Park on pond this a'noon.

MON 05/01/15 In North Berwick no sign again of the Lesser Yellowlegs along shore by West Links this a'noon. At Whitesands Quarry 5 Tundra Bean Geese &
1+ Eurasian White-fronted Goose with Greylags this a'noon then flew towards Barns Ness. On Linlithgow Loch redhead Smew still at east end late a'noon. At Aberlady Bay NR 2 Long-eared Owls roosting in buckthorn by Marl Loch also 3 Little Egrets (including one colour-ringed red & yellow) in the bay this morning + nearby d/b Brent Goose & 3 Barnacle Geese SE of Aberlady Mains in fields east of A6137 opposite caravan site NT474794. In Edinburgh a Waxwing in Morningside Drive in trees by cemetery this morning + no sign of the Black Redstart at Seafield along beach by seawage works today. In the Lammermuirs male Snow Bunting just SW of Fasney Cottage on the north side of Collar Law late morning NT603626.

SUN 04/01/15 In North Berwick the Lesser Yellowlegs still along shore by West Links early morning but no further sign this a'noon despite searching + adult Little Gull flew west past Cowton Rocks late a'noon. On Linlithgow Loch the redhead Smew still late morning. At Ballencrieff (2km SE of Aberlady) 2 Tundra Bean Geese,
Eurasian White-fronted Geese & 4 Barnacle Geese with Pink-footed Geese in fields north of the A6137 / B1377 roundabout viewable from A6137 near Ballencrieff Mains mid-morning cNT481784. At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter offshore still also Kingfisher at the River Esk Mouth this a'noon. At Aberlady Bay NR the Long-eared Owl again roosting in buckthorn showing well all day by Marl Loch. At Port Seton the Black Guillemot again east of harbour off playground at 12.45pm + nearby adult Med Gull at Seton Sands by burn mouth at 10.45am.

SAT 03/01/15 In North Berwick the Lesser Yellowlegs still 1km west of harbour along shoreline at Cowton Rocks (NT541857) by West Links late a'noon (access best by parking on Hamilton Rd then walk over golf course onto beach to view) + Black Guillemot offshore flew in from east and settled on sea near Lamb Island. At Redhouse (1ml NE of Longniddry) 3 Tundra Bean Geese, 2 Eurasian White-fronted Geese & 4 Barnacle Geese with Pink-footed Geese on north side of B1377 just west of Spittal then flushed late morning; two Tundra Bean Geese possibly from same flock were then in fields west of Drem north of B1377 just east of Camptoun junction NT504794 at 11:40am. At Aberlady Bay NR a Long-eared Owl again in buckthorn from main footpath by Marl Loch at 1pm. In Dunbar the fm/imm Black Redstart still south of harbour on East Beach this a'noon + nearby adult Med Gull in Belhaven Bay mid-a'noon. In the Pentlands 5 Snow Buntings showing well on the summit of Carnethy Hill this a'noon. In Haddington a Waxwing showing well in Nungate Gardens late a'noon. At Seton Sands adult Med Gull on sea off burn mouth mid-a'noon.

FRI 02/01/15 In North Berwick a Lesser Yellowlegs (for at least it's second day) c1km west of harbour showing very well along shoreline by West Links just east of Cowton Rocks still late a'noon NT541857. In Edinburgh the fm/imm Black Redstart still at Seafield favouring beach east of sewage works this a'noon + nearby drake Surf Scoter west of Musselburgh off Eastfield this a'noon.

THU 01/01/15 At Redhouse (NE of Longniddry) 2 Tundra Bean Geese & 2 Eurasian White-fronted Geese reported in fields north of the B1377 with Pink-footed Geese cNT454772. In Dunbar the fm/imm Black Redstart still south of harbour on East Beach this afternoon. Near Skateraw 2 Eurasian White-fronted Geese again in fields by old A1 between Skateraw & East Barns this morning.
