TUE 07/02/12 In Edinburgh the BITTERN still today at Duddingston SWT present all a'noon in reeds in the NE corner still at 4.40pm at least - viewable from SE corner at entrance to SWT hide. On the NE side of Tranent 4 SMEW (3 redheads & 1 drake) still on Blindwells Pool this a'noon NT410741 - please view from track only to avoid disturbance.
MON 06/02/12 In Edinburgh the BITTERN again today at Duddingston Loch (Holyrood) flushed from reed bed at west end around 10.30am then late morning seen in flight at east end of the loch - this bird was first seen on 26th Jan but has remained extremely elusive with no other sightings since that day. On the NE side of Tranent 4 SMEW (3 redheads & 1 drake) still on Blindwells Pool early a'noon at least NT410741 - please view from track only to avoid disturbance. On Linlithgow Loch redhead Smew still today in the NE corner + 2 Gadwall.
Late News 05/02/12 On the NE side of Edinburgh a 2nd-winter Iceland Gull on Sunday a'noon along the shore at Eastfield (between Joppa & Fisherrow).
SUN 05/02/12 On the NE side of Tranent 4 SMEW (3 redheads & 1 drake) on Blindwells Pool this a'noon NT410741 - please view from track only to avoid disturbance. On Linlithgow Loch redhead Smew still today in the NE corner. In Edinburgh 8 Waxwings by cemetery on Grange Rd this a.m.
SAT 04/02/12 On the NW side of East Linton a 2nd- winter Iceland Gull following a tractor ploughing in fields at NT575784 + 1st winter Med Gull there. At Yellowcraigs the Hooded Crow still on the beach today. At Seton Sands 2 Med Gulls (ad & 2w) in roost by burn mouth this evening + Red-necked Grebe (+ 3 Slavonian Grebes) off Port Seton. In Edinburgh a 2nd- winter Med Gull along the shore at Seafield (sewage works).
FRI 03/02/12 At Musselburgh 3 Snow Buntings still today along grass embankment by seawall east of the River Esk Mouth + Short-eared Owl there mid-a'noon. In Gosford Bay 32 Slavonian Grebes this morning off Ferny Ness.
THU 02/02/12 At Musselburgh the Tundra Bean Goose (with Greylags) still today - it has been favouring upstream of the River Esk Mouth. On the SW side of Edinburgh 16 Waxwings this morning on Baberton Mains Hill (Baberton Estate) and still late a'noon. At Aberlady up to 3 Water Rails this morning on in scrub and along path on the SE side of the Marl Loch + 5 Woodcock in wood on north side of wooden footbridge. On the west side of White Sands Bay still 1+ Short-eared Owl today around Dunbar Quarry.
Late News 01/02/12: At Seton Sands the 2nd-winter Med Gull still yesterday.
WED 01/02/12 In Dunbar the female Black Redstart still today in gardens and on rooftops at 2.30pm by the East Beach on Lamer Street - this bird has been very elusive throughout it's stay. At Musselburgh a Great Northern Diver (+ 3 Slavonian Grebes) off the seawall east of the River Esk Mouth today + 3 Purple Sandpipers along seawall + 4 Twite still by cadets hut at Esk Mouth. In Gullane Bay a Black-throated Diver (+ Red-necked Grebe) early a'noon.
