At Torness a male Common Redstart by visitors centre this a'noon also Whinchat by lower car park. At Musselburgh 2 Little Ringed Plovers still on the wader scrapes this a'noon also Whinchat along path to hides + nearby drake Shoveler, 4 Gadwall & Common Sandpiper at the River Esk Mouth still. At Barns Ness
30 Whimbrel, Common Whitethroat, Scandinavian Rock Pipit & 2 White Wagtails + Red-throated Diver offshore at midday.

SAT 25/04/15 At Musselburgh the 2 Little Ringed Plovers still on the wader scrapes also 18 Black-tailed Godwits this morning + nearby drake Shoveler, 8 Gadwall & Common Sandpiper at the River Esk Mouth at midday. At Torness 2 Whinchats along moat near outfall + nearby Whinchat on beach near south end of walkway also
4 Common Terns north past. In Haddington a male Common Redstart by River Tyne at Peter Potter Cafe. At Barns Ness 14 Whimbrel today. In Midlothian a male
Common Redstart 2.5mls NW of Gladhouse at Mount Lothian this morning + nearby male Whinchat on Cauldhall Moor. At Linlithgow Loch a Common Swift today.

FRI 24/04/15 At Musselburgh the 2 Little Ringed Plovers still on the wader scrapes this a'noon also Pink-footed Goose + 4 Black-tailed Godwits & 12 Gadwall at the River Esk Mouth + Red-throated Diver off the seawall + Common Sandpiper on Esk near footbridge. In the Pentlands a Red Kite flew beween Scald Law & Carnethy Hill this morning. At Harperrig 3 Tree Pipits, Grasshopper Warbler, Sedge Warbler & 16 Wheatears. At Haddington Tree Pipit, 4 Grasshopper Warblers & 2 Common Whitethroats this morning.

THU 23/04/15 At Musselburgh the 2 Little Ringed Plovers again on the wader scrapes late a'noon also Green Sandpiper & 7 White Wagtails + Greenshank on the wader scrapes this morning + nearby 11 Gadwall at the River Esk Mouth. At Harperrig Reservoir a singing Grasshopper Warbler by cattle grid at west end. On the north side of Tranent singing Grasshopper Warbler by Blindwells Pool late morning. At Torness 2 Yellow Wagtails with 20 Pied Wagtails in sheep field between lower car park & Thorntonloch this evening.

WED 22/04/15 Off Thorntonloch no sign of the White-billed Diver 09:30 - 11:45. At Torness the male Channel Yellow Yagtail still on the SW side of Torness Power Station by access road / minor road junction early a'noon also 2 Yellow Wagtails (1 male). At Musselburgh 2 Little Ringed Plovers on the wader scrapes this a'noon also Bonxie lingering off seawall at east end (attacking then feeding on gull). At Whitesands Bay 3 Common Whitethroats reported in gorse by triangle wood. On the west side of Skateraw 2+ Sedge Warblers reported on Dryburn by old A1.

TUE 21/04/15 Off Thorntonloch the White-billed Diver again flew in from north at 11.30am landed on sea midway between Thorntonloch & Dunglass though distant til 12.45pm then drifted south. At Harperrig Reservoir an Osprey today also 3 Brambling. On the west side of Dunbar the Little Egret in Belhaven Bay this morning.

MON 20/04/15 At Torness / Thorntonloch again no sign of the White-billed Diver this morning.

SUN 19/04/15 Off Thorntonloch the White-billed Diver still early morning viewable distantly from the south end of Torness seawall but no further sign after 7.50am + nearby a female Black Redstart at Torness by lower car park at 10am also a Channel Yellow Wagtail on grass power station early a'noon. At Skateraw an Osprey flew north over at 4.25pm. In Aberlady Bay a Ruff mid-morning also 2 Ruff. In the Pentlands Hills Whinchat & Ring Ouzel. At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter reported again off the River Esk Mouth.

SAT 18/04/15 Off Dunglass a White-billed Diver this morning on sea drifting north towards Thorntonloch 09:00 - 10:00 and again this evening off the north end of Thorntonloch c250m offshore viewable best from the south end of the seawall / walkway at Torness 18:30 - 19:00 at least also 3 Red-throated Divers + nearby
Yellow Wagtail by A1 on wall by junction for Skateraw. At Scoughall (c1.5mls NE of Whitekirk) a Little Ringed Plover at south end at Peffer Sands by the Peffer Burn Mouth late a'noon NT619827. At Musselburgh the 3rd-winter Iceland Gull again this evening at the River Esk Mouth 18:20 - 18:45 at least. At Humbie (east of Pathhead) a report of
12 Waxwings flying NE over Keith Marischal at 5.20pm.

FRI 17/04/15 At Musselburgh the 3rd-winter Iceland Gull again at the River Esk Mouth 4.30pm - 7.45pm also 9 Gadwall (4 drakes) + nearby 4 White Wagtails on the wader scrapes this a'noon. At Barns Ness a Yellow Wagtail this a'noon + Tree Pipit flew NW over this morning also 3 Whimbrel & 8 White Wagtails. On the north side of Tyninghame Bay a male Common Redstart in trees by Sandy Hirst also 2 Whimbrel in the bay. At Gullane 2 Grasshopper Warblers + nearby a Common Swift reported over the A198 at Luffness this a'noon + 6 Tree Pipits & Brambling reported at Aberlady.

THU 16/04/15 In Aberlady Bay a Curlew Sandpiper on east side by old ternary at 2pm. On the east side of Dunbar 20+ White Wagtails between East Beach & Fluke Dub this evening also Little Egret by Fluke Dub.

WED 15/04/15 At Musselburgh the 3rd-winter Iceland Gull again at the River Esk Mouth this evening 5.15pm - 7.02pm then flew east towards wader scrapes + 17 Gadwall (8 drakes), 2 Common Sandpipers & 2 Whimbrel at the River Esk Mouth this morning. At Tyninghame Bay an Osprey flew north over at 9.30am. On the east side of Dunbar 5 White Wagtails, Whimbrel, Scandinavian Rock Pipit & Merlin between East Beach & Fluke Dub + nearby in Whitesands Bay a Whimbrel & 8 White Wagtails this p.m.

TUE 14/04/15 On the east side of Dunbar 3 Gadwall (2 drakes) at the mouth of the Brox Burn.

MON 13/04/15 In East Lothian a satellite tagged Osprey flew NNW over crossing the Firth of Forth from Gullane to East Wemyss (Fife) this a'noon.

SUN 12/04/15 At Musselburgh a 3rd-winter Iceland Gull at the River Esk Mouth late a'noon then flew off east at 4.50pm flew over wader scrapes at 4.55pm then drifted off inland to SE also 15 Gadwall at the River Esk Mouth this morning + 2 White Wagtails on wader scrapes. On the NE side of Edinburgh the drake Surf Scoter off Joppa early morning also 1st-summer Little Gull lingering offshore this evening. Off Gullane Point a Bonxie early a'noon. At Aberlady Bay a Shoveler reported also 6 Purple Sandpipers. In Whitesands Bay 7 White Wagtails on beach this evening + 25+ Wheatears from Cement Works gate between railway & Whitesands Quarry. Between Barns Ness & the Dryburn at Skateraw c40 Wheatears today.

SAT 11/04/15 At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter still offshore also 6 Gadwall at the River Esk Mouth. On the west side of Dunbar the Little Egret still in trees by Seafield Pond late morning / early a'noon. On the East Lothian Coast 70+ Wheatears between Thorntonloch & Barns Ness today also significant numbers of Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Sand Martin & Swallow, and smaller numbers of House Martin & Sandwich Tern (only very notable counts / arrivals of these species will now be included on the recent sightings page).

THU 09/04/15 At Musselburgh drake Surf Scoter still offshore this morning also Red-necked Grebe & 3 Slavonian Grebes + 8 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, Wheatear &
3 Sand Martins. At Seacliff (c2mls east of North Berwick) an Osprey reported north over at 11.30am. On the west side of Dunbar 2 Wheatears on beach below Winterfield Golf Course also 3 Sand Martins, 3 Purple Sandpipers & 65 Golden Plover.

WED 08/04/15 At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter still off Fisherrow this a'noon also Bonxie + nearby 6 Gadwall still at the River Esk Mouth & female Wheatear by ash mound + House Martin over Musselburgh this evening. In Midlothian a Red Kite on the east side of Penicuik circled over Eskvale Drive early a'noon then flew off N/NE at c12.50pm. In Edinburgh an Osprey flew north over Duddingson at 12.30pm + nearby an Osprey flew NW over Blackford Hill at 1.25pm. In the Pentland Hills a female
Ring Ouzel today. At the north end of Gosford Bay 5 Sandwich Terns off Craigielaw Point. At Skateraw 2 Snow Buntings still on beach below car park at 1pm. On the west side of Dunbar a Swallow & 6+ Sand Martins at Seafield Pond this evening also Woodcock & 2 Pochard.

TUE 07/04/15 At Musselburgh a sub-adult Iceland Gull just off the River Esk Mouth 2.25pm at least also 6 Gadwall (3 drakes) this morning + nearby 4 Shoveler (2 drakes) on the wader scrapes. At Tranent an Osprey flew west over at 11.55am. At Skateraw 2 Snow Buntings again on beach below car park late a'noon. In Edinburgh 3 Gadwall (1 drake) near Portobello on Figgate Park Pond this a'noon also 9 Goosander. On the west side of Dunbar a Swallow at Seafield Pond this evening also 3 Sand Martins.

MON 06/04/15 In the Lammermuirs a Red Kite over Fasney Bridge 15:45 - 16:00 then flew off south. On the SW outskirts of Edinburgh an Osprey c1ml west of Balerno flew north over this morning.

LATE NEWS 05/04/15 In East Lothian a satellite tagged Osprey flew NNW over East Linton at c4pm then crossed the Firth of Forth from North Berwick to Elie (Fife).

SUN 05/04/15 At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter off Fisherrow early a'noon also Snow Bunting flew west past + Bonxie at the River Esk Mouth 11:55 - 12:15 at least. At Barns Ness a Swallow reported this morning. On the west side of Dunbar a Little Egret roosting by Seafield Pond at 9.30am.

SAT 04/04/15 At Port Seton a Great Northern Diver off harbour + in Gosford Bay 6 Slavonian Grebes, 5 Red-throated Divers, c30 Long-tailed Ducks, 2 Puffins,
30 Common Scoter & 300+ Velvet Scoter At Musselburgh the drake Surf Scoter still off the River Esk Mouth this morning also 4 Gadwall. At Skateraw 2 Snow Buntings still showing well on beach near lime kiln this a'noon but no sign this evening also White Wagtail & 3+ Scandinavian Rock Pipits. At Cramond a Greenshank at the River Almond Mouth.

FRI 03/04/15 At Barns Ness a Short-eared Owl briefly on rocks near lighthouse at 1.15pm then flew off. At Musselburgh drake Surf Scoter reported offshore this morning. At Skateraw 2 Snow Buntings on beach near lime kiln this a'noon.

THU 02/04/15 On the NE side of Edinburgh drake Surf Scoter reported off Joppa again + later unconfirmed report of drake Surf Scoter between Musselburgh & Gosford Bay early a'noon. In Haddington the female Black Redstart still visiting a private garden this morning. On the east side of Tyninghame Bay 22 Twite at NW end of saltmarsh north of toilet block at John Muir CP.

WED 01/04/15 On the west side of Dunbar the Little Egret still in Belhaven Bay also Sand Martin over Seafield Pond this a'noon. In Haddington the female Black Redstart visiting a private garden this morning.
