RED-RUMPED SWALLOW - Aberlady Area - November 2009
This smart Red-rumped Swallow (only the fifth record for Lothian) was found on the 3rd November around Aberlady Green (by the entrance road to Kilspindie), and after proving to be very elusive and mobile it was eventually pinned down to fields south of Aberlady Village that evening where it generally remained until the 5th. Those twitching it on the morning of the 4th had some fantastic views as it showed well along the track south of Kirk Road, but by that afternoon it had again became mobile and many struggled to catch up with it after this. A few lucky birders managed to see the bird in the company of a single Barn Swallow which was equally late, offering educational comparison in bad light and at distance.
