SINENSIS RACE CORMORANTS - Musselburgh - June & August 2009
Sinensis Race Cormorants (continental race / European Birds) are not a separate species from our own Phalacrocorax Carbo British Race, but they are a very scarce bird in Scotland and definetly one that very few birders know a lot about. It is difficult to determine just how rare/scarce this race is though, with very few records of them most probably being down to getting overlooked and possibily not being submitted when suspected. These birds will probably be only the 2nd and 3rd records of this race in Lothian.
Keith Gillon and Calum Scott certainly seem to have their eye in for them, both finding one on the 7th June and two on the 1st August all at the
River Esk Mouth in Musselburgh.
Sinensis Race Cormorants at Musselburgh by Keith Gillon (first picture - 1st August) and Calum Scott (last three - 7th June).
